A Projection

Stockholm-based A PROJECTION formed in 2013 with the aim of becoming a true post-punk band. Their main influences were groups such as The Cure, Joy Division/New Order, Sisters of Mercy, Interpol and Editors. Electronic acts such as Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, D.A.F. and The Knife were also important influences.

Although they sometimes spill over into neighbouring genres such as indie and goth, the first three albums (Exit, Framework and Section) are more firmly rooted in the post-punk genre, evolving from a more hard-edged, minimalist sound to a more accessible one, all within the framework of a strict post-punk aesthetic and attitude.

Over the course of Covid, after the change of some members (e.g. the former bassist became the main vocalist) and the record label, A PROJECTION’s sound shifted towards a more synth-based style with many influences from the 80s, contemporary darkwave and mainstream hitlists.

The sound of A PROJECTION was and still can be described as “a danceable mix of post punk and electronica, with both depth and edge, bright colours and darkness”.
